About Mitch

Senator Mitchell W. Seabaugh, a Republican, was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2000. His Republican colleagues elected him as the Majority Whip in only his second term. Currently he serves on the Appropriations, Finance, Judiciary, Regulated Industries, Rules, and Reapportionment and Redistricting Committees.

Within the community, Senator Seabaugh once served as the Chairman of the Coweta’s County Business License and Tax Appeal Board. He also served on the Coweta County School Board Citizens’ Advisory Council. He has coached youth baseball in the Newnan and the Sharpsburg youth leagues and also coached Upwards Basketball. Senator Seabaugh also actively supports the Northgate Band once serving as a chaperone and band photographer.

Senator Seabaugh also served as an executive committee member of the Coweta County Republican Party for six years. Senator Seabaugh has worked on numerous local campaigns. In 1996, he served as the Coweta County Chairman for the Bob Dole for President Campaign. He also served on the 3rd District Committee and the Georgia Republican Party State Committee.

Senator Seabaugh was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, also the hometown of Rush Limbaugh. In 1980, he married the former Leah Huddleston. Mitch and Leah have two children, Karen and Ryan. They also have a son-in law, Will, and three grandchildren, Alex, Rebecca, and Andrew.

After graduating from Southern Arkansas University with a BBA majoring in Accounting, Mitch accepted a position as a Controller with International Paper Company (IP) and relocated to Georgia.
 
bass.jpgWhile at IP, he had the opportunity to introduce his company’s innovative healthcare policies to Senator Paul Coverdell in 1993 as an alternative to the Clinton healthcare plan. Later, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, referred to those ideas as the best example he had seen of free enterprise healthcare reform. Currently, he is working as a CFO with a local company.
 
He and his family are active members of SonRise Baptist Church in eastern Coweta County. Senator Seabaugh’s goal in office is to cultivate more involvement in the political process by citizens in his district. Mitch is looking forward to continuing his work on initiatives in Education, Affordable Health Care Access, Economic Development, Transportation and Public Safety. In his spare time, Mitch enjoys golf, reading, and playing the bass guitar.
